Sri Lanka’s expanding economic activity and efforts to strengthen international trade are creating opportunities for foreign businesses and investors across manufacturing, logistics, tourism, technology and renewable energy. As the country consolidates its economic recovery and seeks to position itself as a regional business hub, international partnerships are becoming increasingly important for attracting capital, expanding exports and accessing new markets. Sri Lanka Expo 2027 will provide a platform for international companies to explore investment prospects, establish commercial partnerships and connect with local businesses. The country’s strategic location along major Indian Ocean shipping routes offers opportunities in ports, maritime services, warehousing, freight forwarding and regional supply chains. Its established tea industry and broader agricultural sector also present prospects for value-added processing, packaging, branding and export distribution. Tourism offers further investment potential, extending beyond traditional destinations to eco-tourism, wellness retreats, hospitality infrastructure and community-based experiences. Meanwhile, the expanding digital economy is opening business/investment opportunities in software engineering, artificial intelligence, financial technology, cybersecurity and business process outsourcing. Renewable energy, electricity infrastructure, battery storage and energy-efficient technologies are also emerging areas for foreign participation as Sri Lanka strengthens its energy capacity and modernises essential infrastructure. International businesses/investors can explore joint ventures, technology transfers, export partnerships and direct investments, while local businesses stand to benefit from access to global markets, financing and specialised expertise. Sri Lanka is focused on attracting international capital, diversifying exports and strengthening its position as a destination for investment, trade and regional business partnerships.
