Sri Lanka to establish world renowned hotel chains JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton
Sri Lanka’s millionaire businessman Dhammika Perera is to reportedly establish two luxury resorts of the world renowned hotel chains JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton in Negombo and Mirissa respectively.
The 500 roomed five star hotel of JW Marriott in Negombo is billed for launch in Q4 of 2021, while the Ritz Carlton with its 228 keys will open its doors in Mirissa in Q3 2022, Vallibel One PLC has announced in a press release.
The memoranda of understanding (MOUs) for these hotels were signed recently by Chairman of Sri Lanka’s Greener Water Limited Dhammika Perera (fully owned subsidiary of Vallibel One PLC) and Chairman of Summer Season Limited Mohan Pandithage.
Present at the signing of these two MOUs were Marriott International President – Asia Pacific (Excluding Greater China) Rajeev Menon, Marriott International Regional Vice President Head of Business Development, Kiran Andicot and Executive Director Hayleys PLC and Managing Director of the Hayleys Leisure Sector Rohan Karr.

JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton are two of the most prestigious luxury hotel brands in the world and operates a combined total of over 6,500 hotels worldwide.
Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is on a continuous growth path with tourist arrivals to the country on the increase. The buoyancy shown by Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has resulted in many foreign investments flowing in to the sector. Sri Lanka continues to be listed as a must visit destination by many globally renowned travel publications as well. All this has resulted in the expansion of business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.
