Sri Lanka to commence construction of Terminal 2 of Bandaranaike International Airport

Sri Lanka’s Airport and Aviation Services Ltd (AASL) is to commence the construction of Terminal 2 of the country’s main international airport, Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) shortly.
The planned construction work on the 2nd Terminal at the BIA has been revealed by AASL Chairman G.A. Chandrasiri in a statement to the state owned Daily News.
The AASL Chief has stated that the commencement of the construction of the Terminal 2 was to commence five years ago, but was delayed by the change of government.
However, Chandrasiri has said that the construction of the BIA’s Terminal 2 would commence as soon as the Cabinet of Ministers grant approval for the project.
According to the AASL Chairman, the passenger capacity of the BIA’s current terminal is 6.9 million, while there had been 10 million arrivals at the end of 2019.
Nevertheless, once Terminal 2 is completed at the BIA, the airport will be able to 20 million passengers arriving in the country.
