Sri Lanka building bilateral ties with Austria

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Austria Majintha Jayesinghe has reportedly held cordial discussions with Matthias Stadler, Mayor of St. Polten at the City Hall in Austria recently.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador and the Mayor of St. Pölten have during the discussion expressed interests in strengthening the special relation and enhance trade, investment and tourism opportunities.

On the sidelines of the meeting Ambassador Jayesinghe and Mayor Stadler had opened the “Mandas,” a Sri Lanka restaurant in the City Centre of St Pölten.

The restaurant had also offered the Austrian Mayor and his delegation an opportunity to flavour Sri Lankan cuisine in a truly Sri Lankan ambiance.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka has strong bilateral and trade ties with many overseas countries. The island also enjoys many trade agreements as well as trade concessions with many foreign countries that has given an edge to local businesses, especially exports. Also, Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean and ease of doing business environment have helped the island become a business hub in the South Asian region. Therefore Austrian businesses/investors could explore opportunities in Sri Lanka and vice versa.
