The Morning: Sri Lanka strengthened its UK market presence at Source Fashion London 2026, held from 13 to 15 January at Olympia London, with a 20-stall national pavilion organised by the Export Development Board and the Sri Lanka High Commission.

The event followed the start of duty-free access for Sri Lankan garment exports to the UK from 1 January 2026 under the liberalised framework that permits 100% input sourcing from any country. The change is expected to enhance the sector’s competitiveness and export potential.

Sri Lanka also launched its new National Export Brand, Your Vital Island, at the exhibition. Selected Sri Lankan products were featured on the catwalk, and industry representatives participated in panel discussions, including a session on the use of AI in apparel design and production.

The pavilion showcased apparel, textile and accessories manufacturers, including SMEs, with the aim of expanding buyer networks and increasing export opportunities in the UK market.

Sri Lanka’s export industry, especially the apparel sector, is on a steady growth path while also serving as key revenue generators to the country. The many trade agreements and trade concessions enjoyed by Sri Lanka with many foreign countries have helped boost the country’s export industry and the apparel sector. The growth and expansion of the apparel industry is evident by the many overseas promotions as well as participation in international expos have increased while there has been an increase among local and foreign collaborations in the sector. With the increasing requirements and demand in the foreign marketplace, there are continuous expansions in business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s apparel sector. The profits as well as overseas expansions undertaken by businesses already engaged in the apparel sector indicate the increasing business potential in the sector. Given all these developments, foreign businesses/investors could confidently explore the expanding opportunities in Sri Lanka’s export industry, especially in the apparel sector, while also looking at expanding operations through partnerships or joint ventures with local businesses in the sector.
