OSL take:
Sri Lanka is in the process of further strengthening and expanding existing trade ties with foreign countries while also looking at developing new trade ties. The increasing bilateral, trade, business and investment ties have pushed the Sri Lankan government to work on attracting more foreign businesses and investors to explore the expanding business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka and engage in key economic sectors in the country. With the Sri Lankan government looking at strengthening ties with the Middle Eastern region, the discussions with the UAE to promote Sri Lanka as a business/investment destination in the South Asian region would present many lucrative opportunities to UAE businesses/investors. Given Sri Lanka’s strategic positioning in the Indian Ocean and the strong trade ties enjoyed with many foreign countries while targeting on becoming a regional hub, the business/investment opportunities would present many lucrative ventures with the potential for further expansion. UAE businesses/investors could therefore look at the expanding opportunities in Sri Lanka while also looking at setting up bases in Sri Lanka in order to engage with other countries in the region. Collaborations could also be formed with local businesses to also expand operations.
