Russia’s Aeroflot to launch service to Sri Lanka next month

Russian airline Aeroflot is to commence flights to Sri Lanka from next month and has already commenced ticket sales for flights starting from September 2nd. Ticket sales are so far going well for Aeroflot’s new direct service between Moscow-Colombo.
Accordingly, flights are to be operated on Airbus A330-300 aircraft on Thursday and Saturday.
Local media reports stated that Russian citizens could visit Sri Lanka by obtaining electronic visas and travel will require a negative test for Covid-19 in English, taken no earlier than 72 hours before departure.
A repeated test has to be passed upon arrival at the destination airport.

OSL take:

Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka has been on a steady increase since the country reopened its borders earlier this year. Sri Lanka has become an attractive destination in post Covid travel since the country’s airports received the internationally recognised safety and hygiene certifications. The island is being widely promoted on popular travel programmes as well. Also, Sri Lanka is fast emerging as a business destination in the South Asian region. All these have increased interest in Sri Lanka and the increasing number of flights operated by international airlines is indicative of this fact. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore explore business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, especially in the tourism industry.
