Russian airline Azur Air launches direct flights to Sri Lanka

The Morning: Azur Air inaugurated direct seasonal flights to Sri Lanka, bringing 332 passengers who were welcomed at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday (6).
Sri Lanka Tourism celebrated its arrival with a traditional Kandyan dance performance, marking a warm and vibrant introduction for visitors.
In 2023, Azur Air direct charter flights to Sri Lanka were launched; the first flight arrived at BIA with 332 passengers. Moreover, Azur Air was scheduled to operate four flights per week from Venukov, Tolmachev, Kranoyarsk and St. Petersburg of Russia.
Moreover, Azur Air is the largest charter carrier and former regional airline in Russia.
The airline started operations in 1995 and operates regional flights out of Krasnoyarsk. The company began operating under the Azur Air brand in December 2014.
Nowadays it mainly serves leisure destinations such as the route Moscow to Bodrum, offering an all-business class charter.

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has shown a steady growth since last year following the economic crisis faced by the country a few years back. The increasing number of flights operated by international airlines to Sri Lanka is a further indication of the growing tourism industry in the country. On the other hand, the increasing air traffic to Sri Lanka also indicates the expansion in the airport and aviation industry in the country. It further indicates the need to develop infrastructure and supplementary infrastructure facilities required by the country to meet the increasing demand. This has opened up a host of business/investment opportunities for foreign businesses/investors in the local airport and aviation industry. The growing tourism industry has also opened up business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, especially in the leisure and hospitality sectors. Given the expanding opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism as well as airport and aviation industry, which seem to be on a steady growth path, foreign businesses/investors could confidently explore the business potential in these industries.
