President urges swift action to make Sri Lanka attractive tourist destination
Daily FT: President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed officials to promptly implement the necessary plans to position Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for tourists.
He further emphasised that the successful implementation of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative would strengthen efforts to promote the tourism industry.
The President made these remarks during a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat on December 30, 2024, where discussions were held on positioning Sri Lanka as one of Asia’s most valuable and environmentally sustainable islands.
Additionally, discussions focused on promoting the tourism sector through environmental and cultural avenues. Special attention was given to uniting all stakeholders from both the formal and informal sectors to advance the country’s tourism industry.

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry that is on a steady growth path is one of the key revenue generators to the country. This is evident by the Sri Lankan government’s commitment to further develop and expand the tourism industry to attract more foreign travelers to the country. Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka are bound to witness a further growth with the many promotional campaigns carried out by Sri Lanka in tourist source markets and the country being identified as a must visit tourist destination. The continuing growth in the industry and the local tourism authorities looking at further developing the industry have all resulted in the expansion of business/investment opportunities in the tourism industry. The increasing opportunities in the tourism industry cover many related sectors like leisure and hospitality sectors as well as the development of infrastructure and supplementary infrastructure facilities required to meet the increasing demand. Given all these movements, foreign businesses/investors could confidently explore expanding business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.
