PM says SL next best tourist destination in Asia
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that Sri Lanka intended to become Asia’s next best tourist destination as it is moving away from other regions.
The Premier made this comment addressing the second biennial Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts Future of Tourism Conference in Colombo
“We are looking at attracting five million tourists by 2025 and for this we need to become a 365 day 24 hour destination. The future of tourism will be in Asia and in this outlook one of the best destinations will be Sri Lanka,” he stated.
Both global travel experts and local leisure and hospitality experts were in attendance
According to the Minister of Tourism, 2020 will be declared the “Visit Sri Lanka” year under the Vision 2025 economic policy plan.
“Vision 2025 will provide a strategic direction for the Government, industry and all stakeholders and bring them together through what is known as rooted philosophy. A 10-point action plan to kick-start the destination marketing program has now been finalised under the guidance of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the tourism taskforce,” he said.
He also stated that the conference was a chance for the country to understand international trends, their effect on the country and the best way to deal with them.
The government’s intention to further Sri Lanka’s tourism will provide assurance to potential investors.
