One World Duty Free now at Port City Duty-free Mall

The Morning: One World Duty Free (ODF), a leading and an omnichannel duty-free global travel retail brand that is headquartered in Singapore, proudly announced its latest duty-free store opening at the
Port City Duty-free Mall in Colombo on 1 January. This marks a milestone in the ODF’s strategic entry to the South Asian market which is expected to offer its premium shopping experience for international travellers and local consumers.
ODF eagerly anticipates the completion of the second phase of its Port City Duty-free store by March. This expansion will fully realise the store’s 12,800 sq. ft. retail footprint, offering an elevated shopping experience. With an extensive selection of premium categories and innovative interactive features, the store is set to redefine travel retail. At the initial stage, the store introduces five core product categories; fragrances, wines and spirits, sunglasses, timepieces and toys.
One World Duty Free Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Keira Zhang stated: “The opening of our flagship store in Sri Lanka’s Port City is a pivotal moment for ODF as we expand into the South Asian market. Our carefully curated selection of world-class brands and categories underscores our dedication to providing travelers with an unmatched retail experience. This initiative also supports Colombo’s transformation into a leading retail and tourism hub.”
ODF envisions for the growth of the emerging markets, the launch of the Port City Duty-Free Mall reflects ODF’s commitment to redefining travel retail through innovation and exceptional customer experiences. This duty-free store at the Port City, is expected to attract over 2 million visitors annually demonstrating its position as premier shopping destination.
The Sri Lankan passport holders including dual citizens of Sri Lanka and foreign passport holders with resident visa in Sri Lanka who have returned to Sri Lanka with a valid proof of arrival are eligible for an annual duty-free allowance of $ 2000. The commencement of the allowance is permitted for 4 days from the first day of the arrival. For tourists with valid foreign passports, they will not be subject to an annual allowance limit and such are eligible to purchase from the duty-free store from the date of arrival.
Purchases can be collected from the pickup counter at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

With the Colombo Port City project expected to take Sri Lanka to the next level of development, the ongoing expansion of the Port City would given an impetus to Sri Lanka’s aim of becoming a hub in the South Asian region. Sri Lanka’s overall economy is on a growth path with expansions being recorded in all key economic sectors in the country. There has been an increase in the business/investment opportunities in all key economic sectors. These opportunities range from direct and indirect opportunities to the development of infrastructure and supplementary infrastructure facilities required by the economic expansions and the increasing demand. It is in such a backdrop that there are expansions taking place in the Colombo Port City while many foreign businesses/investors have expressed interest in exploring business/investment opportunities in the project. Given Sri Lanka’s strategic positioning in the Indian Ocean and the many trade agreements and trade concessions enjoyed by the country with many foreign countries, an investment in Sri Lanka, especially in the Colombo Port City, which also figures prominently in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), foreign businesses/investors could confidently explore the many business/investment opportunities in the project.
