Malaysian Foreign Minister Dr. Zambry visits Sri Lanka’s Board of Investment

Daily FT: Minister of Foreign Affairs Malaysia – Head of the Malaysian Delegation Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir met with the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) Chairman Dinesh Weerakkody, and officials of both the BOI, Colombo Port City Economic Commission and private sector representatives to discuss the current economic climate and investment opportunities in both Colombo Port City and on shore.
The Foreign Minister was accompanied by South and Central Asia Division Undersecretary Dato’ Syed Mohamad Bakri Syed Abdul Rahman, and Regional Cooperation and D-8 Division Undersecretary Ahmad Kamrizamil Mohd Riza. Foreign Minister’s Office Special Officer Abdilbar Ab. Rashid, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Sri Lanka Badli Hisham Adam, Counsellor Mohammad Tuming, First Secretary Aneurin Ignatius, Second Secretary Abdul Rahman Adun, and Special Assistant to the Minister Muhammad Faqrul Syazwan bin Mohd Fauzi participated in the discussions at the BOI office recently.

Sri Lanka’s economic resilience through the years and the ongoing economic activities in the country have attracted the attention of foreign businesses/investors to explore opportunities in the country. The Colombo Port City project is one of the main development programmers aimed at taking Sri Lanka to the next level of development. Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean and the strong trade ties enjoyed by the country have all helped boost the country’s attraction as an emerging business destination in the South Asian region. It is this reason that Sri Lanka presents a platform for many foreign businesses/investors to set up base in the country to engage with other countries in the region. Given the growth and business potential in Sri Lanka, foreign businesses/investors could explore the expanding business/investment opportunities in the country. With Sri Lanka also boasting of a strong private sector, foreign businesses/investors could explore the possibility of forming partnerships or joint ventures with local businesses with the aim of further expansion.
