Indian air carrier Indigo to operate flights between Trichy-Colombo
Indian carrier, IndiGo, is to reportedly commence operations four flights per week to Colombo from Trichy from January 10, 2022 after a decade.
According to local media reports, the long-pending Trichy-Colombo-Trichy service of IndiGo has been welcomed by the travel fraternity and the flights are to be operated on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
SriLankan Airlines had operated two services a day prior to Covid 19 and after the lockdown, the carrier had resumed only one service.
Vice President of Trichy Tourism Federation, S A Mubashir has welcomed the announcement and stated that the service would promote more ethnic traffic between Trichy and Colombo.
“There has also been lots of business travel between Trichy and Sri Lanka,” Mubashir has added.
OSL take:
Sri Lanka has seen an increase in the number of flights operated to the country by international airlines indicating an increase in foreign travellers visiting the country. This has shown an increase in the country’s tourism industry as well. Sri Lanka and India enjoy strong bilateral and trade ties that have also increased travel between the two countries as well. The increase in foreign travel to the country has opened up business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, especially in the leisure and hospitality sectors.
