OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s efforts to de-seasonalise tourism could open a new wave of business/investment opportunities by shifting the industry from a peak-season model towards year-round visitor demand. As tourism continues to recover and expand, business/investment opportunities are emerging beyond conventional hotels and resorts. Foreign businesses/investors could target boutique accommodation, eco-lodges, wellness and medical tourism, adventure travel, wildlife experiences, cruise tourism and high-end cultural tourism, particularly in regions with potential to attract visitors outside the traditional peak periods. The push for sustainable, year-round tourism also creates business/investment opportunities in transport, destination management, digital travel platforms, tourism technology, renewable energy, waste management and water-efficiency solutions for hotels and tourism facilities. Wildlife and nature-based tourism offers another significant investment area, with growing demand for responsible safari experiences, conservation-linked accommodation and community-based tourism. Developing these segments sustainably could help spread visitor spending to less-visited regions while creating local employment. For foreign businesses, Sri Lanka’s tourism expansion therefore offers opportunities across a broader tourism ecosystem — from accommodation and experiences to infrastructure, technology and environmental services. De-seasonalisation could further strengthen the investment case by creating more consistent demand and improving the year-round viability of tourism projects.
