Group of Chinese investors in Sri Lanka exploring investment opportunities

A group of top investors from Jilin Province in China have reportedly arrived in Sri Lanka to explore investment opportunities in the island.
Accordingly, top officials of the Jilin Provincial Chamber of Commerce, the Jilin Provincial Chamber of Commerce and the Jilin Foreign Investment Cooperation Association are among delegates.
The delegation had reportedly met Sri Lanka’s Minister of State for Investment Promotion Keheliya Rambukwella recently.
The local media has reported that the Jilin Foreign Investment Partnership Association and Jilin Chamber of Commerce consist of leading public and private companies and the purpose of their visit to Sri Lanka was to explore investment opportunities in sectors such as power and energy, petroleum, construction and transport and industrial products.
Speaking at the meeting, Liu Nai Jung, Deputy Director General of the Jilin Provincial Department of Commerce, Jilin has noted the value of working together in the face of global economic challenges while maintaining bilateral relations between China and Sri Lanka.
Minister Rambukwella has said the present government is interested in foreign direct investment (FDIs) and is committed to the convenience of investors.

There are many Chinese businesses/investors currently operating in Sri Lanka and taking part in the island’s ongoing development programme. This has created interest among other Chinese businesses/investors to explore business opportunities in Sri Lanka. Given the close bilateral and trade ties enjoyed between the two countries, Chinese businesses/investors could confidently explore opportunities in Sri Lanka. Local companies could also look at forming joint ventures/partnerships with Chinese businesses to expand their business presence in Sri Lanka and the South Asian region. Chinese businesses could use the benefits of the many trade agreements as well as trade concessions enjoyed by Sri Lanka by setting up base in the island.
