French investors showing interest in investing in Hambantota Port and plantation sector says envoy

French Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Lavertu has reportedly said French investors have expressed interest in investments related to the Hambantota Port and the plantation sector in Sri Lanka.
The French Ambassador has made this observation during a meeting with Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Opposition Leader’s Office issuing a statement to the media has stated that the Ambassador had thanked the Opposition Leader for his presence at the French National Day during the previous week.
The Ambassador has further noted that there are many investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, if the political and economic policies provide more stability to create an environment conducive to attract foreign investors.
The statement has noted that the envoy had also stated that French investors show keen interest in investments related to the Hambantota Port and the plantation sector.
The statement has added that the Ambassador had highlighted the importance of the Hambantota Port and its strategic location at the heart of global traffic.

Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean and the strategic location of the Hambantota Port in close proximity to the international shipping lines has made the port a great opportunity for any investor. As stated by the French envoy in Sri Lanka, French investors are undoubtedly keen on investing in businesses in the Hambantota Port, which also has an industrial zone adjacent to the port. Also, Sri Lanka’s plantation sector is on a growth path and local authorities are constantly exploring ways of uplifting and further developing the sector.
