Deviation in CIC Group’s agri-business template with Rs. 2bn investment
The CIC Group intends to deviate towards introducing high-tech solutions and innovations to its agri-business activities.
According to Group Managing Director/CEO, Samantha Ranatunga the proposal will direct the company towards adopting a dynamic and futuristic corporate configuration.
He said that the group intended to establish an inventive business template that would concentrate on deviating from outmoded agricultural methods and embrace cutting-edge systems, adding that the change will assist the group in handling the trials and prospects that confront its varied sectors.
Ranatunga added that as a result of the complicated nature in modernising the group’s agri-domainsoftware system, which necessitated hiring specialised IT consultants, a small number of staff would have to be laid off.
He further stated that the group had invested an amount exceeding LKR 2 billion on innovate technology and methods that have made a difference to the country’s farmers and farming practices.

This initiative is an impetus to other agri-business operators to modernise their operations. Also, in accordance with the Government of Sri Lanka’s (GoSL) policy to promote PPP in agriculture, businesses that intend to offer and innovations and technological advancements may stand the chance to explore greater opportunities.
