CNN Travel once again features Sri Lanka’s tourism sector

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has recently received a fresh boost from the renowned travel programme, CNN Travel.
The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) has stated that the concerted efforts by Sri Lanka Tourism to promote the country globally through its integrated and strategic campaign had continued to bring attention to the country.
The Daily FT has reported that the strategies executed have led to a surge of positive reviews and recommendations from the world’s media, even during the pandemic. High profile coverage on CNN, BBC, and Al Jazeera has enabled the country to stay top-of-mind in vital source markets. This will no doubt prove invaluable once international borders open.
One of the most compelling features had included an episode on CNN Travel by Henry Golding, star of the hit movie ‘Crazy Rich Asians’.
The feature has reportedly given the country excellent exposure and global recognition, creating an impact on key source markets in Asia.
Prominence for the country in the source markets of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and other Asian destinations has allowed for a steady stream of tourists all year round.
“The efforts undertaken by Sri Lanka Tourism is a part of a larger policy initiative mandated in line with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s manifesto, ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’. Earned international media coverage such as this fulfills many key policy criteria, which is an integral part of our strategy for a quick and sustainable recovery,” Sri Lanka Tourism Chairperson Kimarli Fernando has been quoted as saying in the Daily FT.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s tourism authorities have continuously carried out global promotional campaigns to boost the country’s tourism industry. Sri Lanka has received much exposure in many leading foreign travel programmes that have further attracted attention of foreign travellers. Sri Lanka’s tourism industry was one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the country when the global Covid 19 pandemic brought about global travel restrictions. However, the country’s tourism industry is once again on the path to recovery with tourist arrivals to the country showing a steady increase since the country reopened its borders earlier this year. Sri Lanka has been listed as a must visit destination by several leading global travel publications and the country’s airports have also received the internationally recognised safety and hygiene certifications making the island an attractive destination in post Covid travel. Given the ongoing expansions in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, foreign businesses/investors could confidently explore the growing business potential in the sector.
