Chongqing Airlines resumes services to Colombo with three weekly flights

Daily FT: Chongqing Airlines has resumed its flights to Colombo, offering three weekly services between the two cities.
The resumption of flights is set to enhance connectivity and foster greater opportunities for tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges between China and Sri Lanka.
The reinstated service provides travellers with a convenient option for exploring Sri Lanka’s vibrant culture, natural beauty, and rich heritage, while also facilitating smoother access for Sri Lankan travellers to Chongqing and beyond.
As China remains a key source market for Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, the resumed flights are expected to attract a steady flow of Chinese tourists eager to explore the island nation.
In 2024, China was ranked the fifth largest source market for Sri Lanka, contributing 131,681 tourists from 2.05 million overall arrivals, and during the first week of 2025, Sri Lanka has welcomed over 2,000 Chinese visitors.

Sri Lanka has recorded growth in several key economic sectors that include tourism, airport and aviation industries. The increase in the number of flights operated by international airlines to Sri Lanka is further indicative of this fact. However, the increase in flights being operated to the country and the steady growth in foreign travelers to the country have expanded the business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism, airport and aviation industries. With Sri Lanka on a growth path in many fields with the target of becoming a regional hub, the emerging business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism, airport and aviation industries provide many revolving opportunities for foreign businesses/investors.
