CCC Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council completes successful business promotion mission

Daily FT: The Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) undertook a successful business promotion mission to Indonesia, from 6 to 11 October 2024.
The delegation consisted of 14 Sri Lankan business professionals from various sectors, including food and beverage, logistics, pharmaceuticals, apparel, travel, IT, and recreation industries.
The tour covered several business forums, expos and visits to key stakeholders in trade and business sectors. The delegation attended the Indonesia-South and Central Asia (INASCA) Business Forum 2024, organised by Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry on 7 October 2024. In collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta, the Council operated a booth at INASCA which attracted a large number of visitors from the business community. They also attended the 39th Trade Expo Indonesia, which highlighted Indonesia’s dynamic and emerging economy. During their tour, the delegates met with the Chairperson and board members of the Indonesia Employers’ Association (APINDO) and engaged in productive discussions on enhancing trade and business relations between the two countries. A roundtable discussion with senior officials from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) further paved the way for strengthened business and trade relations between the two countries.
Furthermore, the delegation toured the MM2100 Industrial Town in Cikarang, Indonesia, where they gained valuable insights into real industrial developments, during an interactive session at the site.
A “Business Networking Session”, hosted by the Association of Sri Lankans Living in Indonesia (ASLI) in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Jakarta, provided a platform for delegates to connect with Sri Lankan entrepreneurs in Indonesia.

OSL take:
Sri Lanka is focused on further attracting foreign businesses/investors to the country as the country’s economy is on a steady growth path. The ongoing economic expansion has presented many business/investment opportunities that could be exploited by foreign businesses/investors by way of direct engagement or through a local collaboration. Local authorities have also carried out promotional campaigns in many overseas countries to present the many business/investment opportunities in the country and to serve as the lynchpin between foreign businesses/investors and local businesses to form joint ventures or partnerships to expand businesses. It is in such a backdrop that Sri Lanka’s CCC had engaged in a discussion with the Indonesia Business Council in order to present the opportunities in Sri Lanka to attract Indonesian businesses/investors to the country while also looking at initiating partnerships between Indonesian and Sri Lankan businesses. Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean, the many trade agreements as well as trade agreements enjoyed with other countries and the target of becoming a hub in the South Asian region all indicate the strength, growth and expanding business potential in Sri Lanka. Indonesian businesses/investors could explore the expanding opportunities in Sri Lanka while also looking at setting up bases in Sri Lanka to engage with other countries in the region.
