Barceló Hotel Group opens Occidental Paradise in Dambulla in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka’s Central city of Dambulla has witnessed the opening of Occidental Paradise Dambulla, which is a 67 bedroom four start hotel, under the Barceló Hotel Group.
The opening of the hotel in Dambulla is part of Barcelo’s strategy announced his summer to accelerate its expansion in Asia. The Company is to add another new establishment in Sri Lanka in November.
The deal was signed in December 2019 with Browns Investments, a subsidiary of Sri Lanka’s LOLC Group.
LOLC Group is one of Sri Lanka’s largest conglomerates.
Occidental Paradise Dambulla is located in the heart of the ‘Cultural Triangle’, a strategic location close to some of the world’s oldest cities, such as the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Digamadulla, as well as the ancient city of Dambulla and its Golden Temple, or the sacred city of Kandy and its Temple of the Tooth.
The hotel has 67 rooms overlooking its gardens.

The opening of a new four star hotel in Dambulla is indicative of the expansions in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry. Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is now on the path to recovery after being hit by the global travel restrictions that were in place due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Tourist arrivals to the country are on a steady increase with the island being considered a popular post Covid travel destination. Sri Lanka is being listed as a must visit destination by several leading global travel publications and the safety certifications received by the country’s airports. Sri Lanka is on an overall development drive in a bid to promote the island as a business destination in the South Asian region. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore explore the expanding opportunities in Sri Lanka including the tourism industry.
