Establishment of dairy development zones with backward integration, on idle and underutilized land of National Livestock Board

The consumption of dairy products has increased dramatically since the 1970s when the Government adopted open economic policies. The dairy industry has great potential to contribute considerably to Sri Lanka’s economic development. Currently, Sri Lanka is about 15–20 percent self-sufficient with its milk products, though that level has been achieved mostly with imported milk powder. The investment on offer is to set up dairy development zones on Public Private Partnership basis in the North Western and North Central Province of Sri Lanka.
