Top Syngenta officials visit Sri Lanka to strengthen ties with CIC

Daily FT: CIC Holdings key business partner Syngenta India Ltd., further strengthened its presence and commitment in Sri Lanka when some of its top officials, including Managing Director Susheel Kumar, visited Sri Lanka recently to have a first-hand look at the global giant’s footprint in the country.
The visit to CIC Holdings and Sri Lanka was the first official visit by the Managing Director of Syngenta India. During his short visit, Kumar, who was joined by Institutional Business Lead – India and Sri Lanka Khantil DilipKumar Dixit, visited the CIC Seed Farm in Pelwehera and toured demonstration fields at Ibbankatuwa in the Dambulla area to witness the success of the GroMore concept, which is a paddy productivity enhancement drive spearheaded by CIC. This unique initiative by CIC focuses on enhancing paddy productivity through improved agronomic practices and the effective use of Syngenta’s crop protection technologies.
The field engagement provided an opportunity for the Syngenta delegation to observe the program in action and witness the extensive demand-generation initiatives undertaken by CIC to promote modern farming solutions and improve productivity in the paddy sector. 
The visiting Managing Director also took time to meet some of the farmers and engage in discussions. He was also part of a ceremony where successful farmers were awarded with farmer health insurance certificates in appreciation for being part of the GroMore initiative.
During their visit to the CIC Seed Farm at Pelwehera, the Syngenta delegation observed the research and development activities and seed production operations of the CIC Agribusiness Group.
Syngenta has been a longstanding business partner to CIC Holdings and an integral part of their vital agriculture portfolio for over six decades. This visit reaffirmed their strong partnership and underscored their shared commitment in supporting Sri Lankan farmers through innovative crop protection technologies and sustainable agricultural practices. Following the field visits, the Syngenta delegation engaged in discussions with CIC Holdings Chairman Harsha Amarasekera, CEO Aroshan Seresinhe, and senior staff of the CIC Agri Cluster.

The increasing business potential of local businesses in Sri Lanka as well as their overall strength, resilience and growth are evident by the increasing interest among foreign businesses/investors to enter Sri Lanka and form partnerships or joint ventures with local businesses. Sri Lanka’s economic resilience to challenging periods through the years and the strong private sector that has recorded growth and expansion through difficult times have all boosted thr confidence of foreign businesses/investors. The supporting features like the country’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean, strong trade ties and trade concessions enjoyed with many foreign countries as well as the improving ease of doing business environment in the country have also helped Sri Lanka’s economic expansion. These factors have also resulted in the expansion of business/investment opportunities in all key economic sectors in the country. Given the growth and business potential in Sri Lanka, foreign businesses/investors while exploring the expanding business/investment opportunities in the country could also look at expanding operations through partnerships or joint ventures with local businesses.
