Procurement of 20 Nos. of Electric Prime Movers for the Port of Colombo

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is advancing a major strategic investment to modernize and decarbonize port operations through the procurement of 20 Electric Prime Movers, complete with spare parts, specialized maintenance tools, technical training, warranty support, and long-term service commitments. This initiative, executed under a

transparent international competitive bidding process, reflects SLPA’s mandate to elevate Colombo into a high-efficiency, low-emission logistics hub aligned with global sustainability standards and evolving industry expectations. The project specifications require globally established manufacturers with strong production capacity, proven

delivery experience, and after-sales support systems, ensuring that the new fleet integrates seamlessly with Colombo’s expanding terminal infrastructure. By replacing conventional diesel equipment with fully electric technology, the Port of Colombo aims to significantly reduce fuel dependency, operational costs, carbon

emissions, and noise pollution while improving fleet reliability and throughput performance. The programme also includes structured training for port operators, commissioning and testing requirements, and a comprehensive maintenance framework. As cargo volumes continue to grow and Sri Lanka strengthens its position as a regional transshipment hub, this investment creates a prime opportunity for OEMs, technology innovators, component suppliers, financiers, and strategic partners to participate in a national transformation initiative supported by strong government policy, increasing demand for green logistics, and a clear vision for future-ready port infrastructure.
