Development of 2 x 50 MW Wind Farm Facilities at Mullikulam on Build, Own and Operate (BOO) Basis
The project involves the development of two 50MW wind farms (Lot 1 & Lot 2) in Mullikulam, Mannar District, on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis. This initiative is part of the Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) long-term renewable energy strategy to increase wind energy penetration, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and contribute to Sri Lanka’s goal of achieving 70% renewable energy by 2030. The selected developers will be responsible for financing, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining the wind farm facilities. The project will include state-of-the-art wind turbine technology with a maximum rotor diameter of 160m and a hub height of up to 220m. Each farm will feature a 33kV collector network, a 33/220kV collector substation, and SCADA-controlled operations for efficient power management. The generated electricity will be transmitted via a newly developed 220kV transmission line, ensuring a stable supply to the national grid.
