Construction of Mannar – Mullikulam 220kV Double Circuit Transmission Line
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced international competitive bidding for the Mullikulam Wind Power Transmission Project, a landmark initiative under the national grid expansion programme. The project involves the design, supply, and construction of a 220kV double-circuit transmission line linking the Mannar Grid Substation and the Mullikulam Wind Collector Substation, spanning approximately 28 km. Funded entirely through CEB’s internal resources, this project is a key enabler in integrating large-scale wind energy generation from the north-western region into the national transmission network, strengthening system reliability and grid stability while supporting Sri Lanka’s clean-energy transition targets. The project follows a single-stage, two-envelope international tender procedure and invites participation from experienced EPC contractors and joint ventures with proven expertise in high-voltage transmission systems. Strategically located near Mannar, Sri Lanka’s primary wind corridor, the Mullikulam Transmission Line will play a crucial role in transmitting renewable energy to the national grid and enhancing cross-regional connectivity.
