Sri Lanka’s tourism arrivals exceed 2.2 million
The Morning: Sri Lanka has seen over 2.2 million tourist arrivals since the beginning of the year, according to data published by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
Sri Lanka had initially targeted 3 million tourist arrivals this year, however that target had been revised by the SLTDA.
According to data, as of 15 December, Sri Lanka had seen the arrival of 2,208,000 tourists.

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry continues to show steady growth along with an increasing business potential. The expansion recorded by the tourism industry has opened many business/investment opportunities in the industry, but also in sectors related to it. There are multiple opportunities in the tourism industry that range from the development of infrastructure and supplementary infrastructure facilities required to meet the increasing demand as well as developing facilities to address the requirements of the expanding tourism concepts that are being promoted among foreign tourists. The lucrative nature of businesses in the tourism industry and related sectors as well as its increasing business potential are evident by the refurbishment and expansion programmes undertaken by businesses in the leisure and hospitality sector while there is an increase in interest among international leisure and hospitality brands to enter the industry. Given all these factors, foreign businesses/investors could explore the expanding business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and related sectors.
