Sri Lanka’s participation in Expo Dubai 2020 to help country become export, FDI and tourism oriented

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama has reportedly discussed with the UAE Ambassador, Ahmed Ali Al Mualla about the participation at Expo Dubai 2020 as well as the benefit to be achieved as a nation.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Nalin Bandara, Indira Malwatte, Chairperson of Export Development Board (EDB), MangalaYapa, Chairman of Board of Investments (BOI) and officials from EDB, BOI, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the private sector.
Transforming Sri Lanka into the hub of the Indian Ocean, with a knowledge-based, highly competitive and social-market economy is the objective of the Vision 2025 policy document of the Government, a media release from the Ministry of Investment Promotions has stated.
“Making the transition to an export, FDI and tourism oriented country is the only option for Sri Lanka to create better jobs for the youth of our country and to graduate to a higher income economy”.
Expo Dubai 2020 will contribute to achieving Sri Lanka’s Vision 2025 by supporting the growth of tourism, stimulating the development of innovative businesses and enhancing the country’s international reputation as a location to do business which is of utmost important considering specially the current situation of the country, the release has further stated.

Sri Lanka is now carrying out many international promotions with the aim of promoting the country as a destination for tourism and FDIs. The country’s geographical positioning, economic conditions and strong trade ties with many foreign countries makes Sri Lanka a business hub in the Indian Ocean region.
