Sri Lankan research unit says consumer demand would normalize by fourth quarter this year

The research arm of Sri Lankan investment establishment, First Capital has reportedly stated that the country’s consumer demand is expected to remain weak until the last quarter of 2019.
“First Capital Research expects the recovery in demand to be at a significantly slow pace considering the severity of the impact to all sectors by the Easter Sunday attacks and the subsequent incidents,” a report has stated.
“We expect demand to normalize by the fourth quarter of 2019, supported by the possible improved sentiment with the announcement of the Presidential Election,” First Capital Research has further stated.
Meanwhile, inflation in the country’s commercial capital, Colombo has increased in 2019. However, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has reportedly attributed this increase in price levels to the depreciation of the rupee in 2018.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s consumer demand that is at a low at the moment is expected to return to normal by the fourth quarter. This would result in the increase in demand for goods and services improving existing business opportunities as well as create new business opportunities.
