Sri Lankan government to consult stakeholders on a port related logistics hub and logistics park
The Megapolis and Western Development Ministry of Sri Lanka is to consult all stakeholders, including professional bodies next week to gather their views on a port-related logistics hub and a proposed logistics park to be set up in Welisara.
The Sri Lankan government in its Vision 2025 has proposed the transformation of the Colombo Port into a logistics and maritime hub within the Indian Ocean region.
The Megapolis Ministry has stated that the support and cooperation of professional bodies representing the areas of supply chain, logistics and transport development were therefore vital.
According to reports, the ministry has extended an invitation to key professional bodies, including the Institute of Supply Chain and Materials Management, Export Development Board, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka Shipping Council, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Sri Lanka Freight Forwarders Association, Board of Investment, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka Air Cargo Association, Organisation for Professional Association, Ceylon Shipping Corporation, Representation of Armed Forces of Logistics Professionals, Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents, Sri Lanka Logistics and Freight Forwarders Association, Sri Lanka Customs and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, to join a knowledge-sharing discussion next week at the Megapolis Ministry in Battaramulla.

The port related logistics hub and logistics park is a large scale development in Sri Lanka’s project pipeline that would open up many investment opportunities for foreign businesses. The consultation programme would result in the formulation of the project to be implemented and interested foreign businesses could look at forming joint ventures with local companies to explore for opportunities to be part of project proposed by Sri Lanka’s Megapolis Ministry.
