Sri Lankan government to buy nine x-ray scanning machines for BIA to detect explosives

Sri Lanka’s Government Information Department has reportedly stated that the government is planning to buy nine x-ray scanning machines to detect explosives at the country’s main international airport – the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, which is located in close proximity to the commercial capital, Colombo.
The Information Department has stated that the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday (20) has approved a proposal by Sri Lanka’s Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry to call for bids for the airport x-ray baggage scanners‎.
Accordingly, the tender is for the supply, installation and maintenance of the x-ray explosives detection equipment.
The government of Sri Lanka has taken many measures to step up security at the airport after the April suicide bombings of hotels and churches by Islamist extremists.
