Daily FT: Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Poland Priyangika Dharmasena engaged in discussions with Polish Chamber of Commerce Regional Director Katarzyna Kaniewska, on further promoting trade relations between Sri Lanka and Poland on 6 October 2024.
Ambassador Dharmasena pointed out Sri Lanka’s potential to introduce a vast range of novel Sri Lankan products to the Polish market, in addition to tea and textiles which are the current main commodity items from Sri Lanka. She also suggested that a Polish trade delegation visit Sri Lanka to explore the trade environment in the country. An online seminar to educate the Polish businessmen and entities on Sri Lanka’s trading environment and potential products would also facilitate this further, Ambassador Dharmasena noted.
Director Kaniewska welcomed the proposals and conveyed the Chamber’s willingness to cooperate in that regard.

OSL take:
Sri Lanka is currently focused on expanding its trade ties with other countries in a bid to open up more foreign markets for Sri Lankans to access and vice versa. The country already enjoys many trade agreements and trade concessions with foreign countries, but is continuing to strengthen and expand trade ties by including more countries to the list. The Polish market presents more business/investment opportunities to Sri Lanka’s manufacturing and export sectors. The two sectors have shown a steady growth through the past few years, even amidst the economic crisis experienced during the last few years. Sri Lanka is also promoting the many business/investment opportunities that could present lucrative opportunities to Polish businesses/investors. With Sri Lanka’s economy on a growth path and the country on a path to become a regional hub, the increasing business/investment opportunities could be grabbed by Polish businesses/investors. Also, the steady growth in Sri Lanka’s manufacturing and export sectors could also be looked at by Polish businesses/investors especially in relation to Sri Lankan products to the Polish market as well as markets around Poland.
