Sri Lankan company announces agreement with CEB to operate two fast track power stations

The VPower Group in Sri Lanka has reportedly announced in a stock exchange filing in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) on April 4 that the company has entered into a power purchase agreement with Sri Lanka’s state owned power utility, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
The filing has stated that “the Group (VPower) is awarded to build and operate two fast – track power stations for the project with an aggregate installed capacity of 54.9 MW and an expected commencement of operation date by the end of April.”

The on going power crisis in Sri Lanka has resulted in the Sri Lankan government opting for emergency power purchasing. Also, the government is looking at mid to long term solutions to address the looming power crisis. Therefore, foreign businesses/investors could explore business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s power and energy sector.
