Sri Lankan authorities to offer multiple entry visas for business people to encourage investments

The government of Sri Lanka is reportedly looking at amending its immigration rules in order to offer multiple entry visas for business people with the aim of further promoting trading and investments.
Sri Lanka’s Government Information Department has stated that the Cabinet of Ministers had last week approved a proposal by Vajira Abeywardena, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Internal and Home Affairs to the Immigrants and Emigrants Act for the new visa scheme.
The state department has noted that the government aims to extend the duration of tourist visas and to issue multiple entry visas for commercial activities.
The amendments are expected to introduce a visa system that would attract investors and introduce a single-fee scheme for tourist visas.
A penalty fee of US$ 500 is to be introduced for those over staying in the country without visas.
