Sri Lankan authorities hold Sri Lanka Business and Investment Forum in India

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Austin Fernando and Sri Lanka’s Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama have reportedly met the Indian business community at a Sri Lanka Business and Investment Forum held at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry last week in Ahmedabad.
A statement issued on the Forum states that the discussion had centered on ways in which business could be developed between Gujarat and Sri Lanka.
Samarawickrama had explained how business can be established between the two countries, and the businessmen had shared their experiences in establishing business with Sri Lanka, according to local media reports.
The Minister and the Sri Lankan government officials have also responded to queries by the participants on establishing business with Sri Lanka.
Four chief executive officers of Indian companies that have connected business with Sri Lanka have shared their experiences with the businessmen who were present, which had enabled all interested parties to benefit from their first-hand experiences.
Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka Chairman Mangala Yapa, Sri Lanka’s Consul General in Mumbai Chamari Rodrigo and Minister (Commercial) of the Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi, Upekkha Samarathunga were also present at the discussion together with around 90 businessmen.
During their visit to Gujarat, Minister Samarawickrama and High Commissioner Austin Fernando have also met with the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Vijaybhai Rupani and held constructive discussions on establishing and expanding Sri Lanka-Gujarat business investments and connections.

The government of Sri Lanka is engaged in many promotional activities to attract more foreign direct investments (FDIs) to the country. The positive economic policies that have been commended by multilateral donor agencies as well as the ease of doing business environment in the country have made Sri Lanka an appealing business/investment destination to many foreign businesses/investors. Also, Sri Lanka’s geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean as well as the many trade concessions enjoyed by the country have added to its attraction. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore explore business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.
