Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau formulating short and long term plans on global promotional campaign
The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) is reportedly in the process of formulating the short term and long term plans on the global promotional campaign.
The SLTPB is currently awaiting approval from the Cabinet of Ministers for a global marketing agency to implement the campaigns.
The local media has reported that the SLTPB is currently engaged in many programmes to revive the tourism industry back to normalcy despite the Easter Sunday attack with the aid of global travel agents and local stakeholders.
The industry is also looking at investing around Rs.464 million for a short term promotional campaign.
“As the government has requested the foreign ambassadors to soften the travel advisories in the respective countries, we need to make this as an opportunity to promote the country globally,” Chairman, SLTPB, Kishu Gomes has told the Daily News Finance.
He has observed that since the travel advisories issued by foreign countries are of different nature, the Bureau has already launched plans to revive the industry.
Taking part in the Arabian Travel Mart (ATM) recently for the 16th consecutive time, Sri Lanka has reportedly been able to assure the international community of Sri Lanka Tourism’s confidence of being able to bounce back to its competitive industry.
OSL take:
Sri Lanka’s tourism sector was on a continuous growth when the Easter Sunday attacks last month dealt a severe blow to the industry. However, tourist arrivals have commenced to the country once again and the government of Sri Lanka has already introduced a relief package to the country’s tourism sector. With the aggressive global tourism campaign planned by the country’s tourism authority, Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is expected to bounce back sooner than expected. Therefore, foreign businesses/investors could make use of the relief package introduced by the government and explore business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
