OSL take:

Sri Lanka is currently in the process of further strengthening the country’s existing trade ties while also looking at expanding trade ties to include new countries. Sri Lanka already enjoys the benefits of many trade agreements and trade concessions with many foreign countries thereby gaining access for local products in many foreign markets. While Sri Lanka is working on expanding the country’s trade ties, local exporters are also being encouraged to add more value to their products and to diversify their export product portfolios to meet the evolving needs of the global marketplace. It is in such a backdrop that Sri Lanka is looking at new trade opportunities with Vietnam. Businesses/investors in Vietnam could therefore confidently explore the emerging opportunities in Sri Lanka while also looking at expanding operations through collaborations with Sri Lankan businesses. On the other hand, Sri Lankan businesses could also look at expanding operations through partnerships or joint ventures with Vietnamese businesses. Also, other foreign businesses interested in doing business with Vietnam could look at centrally locating operations in Sri Lanka to engage with Vietnam using the strong trade ties between the two countries.
