Sri Lanka seeks developers for government’s super app

The Morning: The Ministry of Digital Economy has invited Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the design, development, maintenance, and support of its proposed super app, which is expected to consolidate all Government services onto a single unified platform.

Speaking to The Sunday Morning Business, Ministry of Digital Economy Acting Secretary Waruna Sri Dhanapala revealed that the ministry, through the Ministry Consultant Procurement Committee, had invited EOIs from eligible and interested firms for this purpose.

The aim is to consolidate citizen services to enhance the overall user experience in accessing digital Government services.

“We are trying to bring all the citizen services onto one platform in order to improve their experience,” he stated.

Dhanapala further stated that the primary objective was to enable citizens to access all Government services through a single application, serving as a one-stop platform, rather than having to use multiple apps as was currently the case.

“There are several other systems that are being developed in parallel at present that will support this venture in the future, such as the digital ID platform, the data exchange platform, and payment platforms,” he added.

The Acting Secretary further stated that the initiative was intended to be developed in a citizen-centric manner, addressing the needs of the public, entrepreneurs, and business owners alike.

The super app proposed by the Ministry of Digital Economy was described in the public notices calling for applications as a central container mobile app framework based on the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) architecture, along with an online web portal for the Government citizen-centric super app.

This initiative is part of the Ministry of Digital Economy’s transformative attempt to develop a comprehensive super app that will function as a unified platform for all Government services.

This initiative is in line with Sri Lanka’s National Digital Strategy and seeks to enhance the citizen experience while improving the efficiency of Government service delivery and return on investment.
