Sri Lanka to receive Euro 11 million grant to set up German technical training institute in Matara
The Finance Ministry of Sri Lanka has stated that the government is to receive a Euro 11 million grant from the German government in order to establish a German technical training institute in Matara.
In a statement issued by the Ministry, it has been noted that the German government has agreed to provide this grant as a result of a request that was made by Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera in 2015 in his capacity as Foreign Minister.
The Sri Lanka-German Training Institute (SLGTI) in Kilinochchi was established in 2016 following a similar request by Samaraweera in 2015.
OSL take:
The setting up of a German technical training institute in Matara will help build a skilled workforce in the southern region of Sri Lanka. Given the overall economic growth in the country and the investment in developing a skilled workforce, foreign businesses/investors could explore business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.
