Sri Lanka participates in Carnival of Cultures in Berlin as part of tourism promotional drive

The government of Sri Lanka is not leaving any stones unturned in its endeavor to promote the country globally and earlier this month, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Berlin, in association with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and Sri Lanka Association in Berlin had participated at the annual Karnevel der Kulturen 2019 (Carnival of Cultures) held in Berlin from June, 7 to 10.
Sri Lanka set up a stall at the carnival, displaying Sri Lankan identity and unique culture and throughout the four days, the Sri Lank Army cultural troop performed, attracting hundreds of people, the local media has reported.
The street parade, held on 9 June 2019, marked the peak of the Carnival, where Sri Lanka Army Cultural troop, together with Sri Dance group, Berlin, performed traditional Sri Lankan dances. Sri Lankan parade was warmly welcomed by a large number of spectators, gathered along the street. The colourful truck was decorated with sculptures of a Sri Lankan elephant and an elegant peacock, along with Sri Lankan traditional art, the state owned English daily has reported.
Reaching out to the public by participating at the Carnival and the publicity received by media are viable opportunities to send a message to the mass audience of Germany and neighbouring countries of the Sri Lankan culture and tradition, which will in return, directly impact on boosting tourism, the report has further stated.
Also, promotion materials, including leaflets, Sri Lankan key tags and caps on the theme ‘So Sri Lanka’ had been distributed among the spectators randomly.

The government of Sri Lanka with the country’s tourism authorities is engaged in a massive global promotional campaign to capitalize on the goodwill of the international community to promote Sri Lanka’s tourism sector to overcome the negative impact felt following the Easter Sunday attacks. The country’s tourism sector is currently in a recovery path showing rapid signs of recovery with the relaxing of travel advisories issued on Sri Lanka and announcements by foreign airlines on the resumption of flights to Colombo. Sri Lanka’s key tourism markets, India and China have started to return to the country with Indian Prime Minister also paying a visit to Sri Lanka recently. New development work in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector is ongoing in preparation for the industry’s quick return to normalcy. Therefore, foreign businesses/investors could explore business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
