Sri Lanka to host world congress of global association of financial markets – ACIFMA

Chairman of Paris-based Association Cambiste Internationale, Financial Markets Association (ACIFMA), Bruno Langfritz has reportedly said it would hold its world congress in Sri Lanka this October as previously planned.
He has noted that the congress would be held as planned since the security situation in the country has improved since the Easter Sunday attacks in April.
Langfritz has told the media that the congress would help focus attention on Sri Lanka’s plans to become a financial hub in the region.
“When the Easter Sunday attacks took place, everyone called for cancelling of the congress,” he has been quoted as saying at a news conference held to announce the ACI Financial Markets Association World Congress from the 3rd to 5th October in Colombo.
“But it was not cancelled as we know that this can happen in any place in the world,” Langfritz has observed. “It happens in France, in Belgium, it can happen in Switzerland, where I’m from.”
According to Langfritz, he feels comfortable with security measures taken by Sri Lanka.
President of the Sri Lanka Forex Association, Shanaka Perera has reportedly said the event will demonstrate that Sri Lanka is very much open for business in terms of conference tourism
Sri Lanka Forex Association will also host the event.
“Sri Lanka is striving to become a regional financial centre, through the port city financial centre which this conference will highlight,” Perera has further noted.
About 200 foreign delegates are expected for the forum.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s overall economy is now on the rise after the slump experienced following the Easter Sunday attacks in April. Tourist arrivals are on the increase and tourism promotional activities are being carried out in key tourist source markets. Sri Lanka is also been promoted as a MICE destination and events such as the one mentioned above would further promote the country as a venue for MICE activities. Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has been on a continuous growth path recording an expansion in business/investment opportunities.
