Sri Lanka based cement company manufacturing cement to cater to Chinese projects
Official of INSEE Cement Company based in Sri Lanka has reportedly stated that the company is anticipating its business to increase with the demand for specialist cement from Chinese companies.
Chairman INSEE Cement Nandana Ekanayake has been quoted as saying, “Many Chinese contractors understand the different types of cement. Some of them demand specific cement products and we are working with the authorities to cater to these high-end customers now operating in Sri Lanka.”
Ekanayake has made this observation during his speech at the launch of INSEE Cement sustainability report at the Taj Samudra Hotel recently.
The state owned English daily, Daily News has reported that the sustainability report notes, the company had revisited its internal quality frameworks as part of its ongoing improvement programme and introduced several quality dashboards to further broad base the quality benchmarks over and above the guidelines set out under the ISO 9001 Quality Management Standards.
Ekanayake has stated, “We have these two captive brands Sanstha and Mahaweli Marine. One-third of the houses in Sri Lanka are built by the use of Sanstha Cement.”
The company has island-wide coverage and has two grinding centers in the south. It also has an import terminal in Colombo, which is capable of providing 800,000 tonnes of cement, the local media report has noted.
Ekanayake has further noted that his company could provide the market with 3.5 million tones of products to the market.
INSEE Cement has placed itself as the only fully integrated cement manufacturer in the country with warehouses, express delivery, concrete mixing plants and wood substitute products.
OSL take:
The requirement of manufacturing specialised cement to suit certain construction purposes has expanded Sri Lanka’s cement manufacturing market. Meeting the cement requirement of Chinese contractors itself is a massive business/investment given the large number of large scale Chinese construction taking place in Sri Lanka at the moment. Sri Lanka’s ongoing development agenda is to further expand creating more business/investment opportunities. Therefore, foreign businesses/investors could conduct a survey and determine the areas in Sri Lanka’s development programme that shows opportunities.
