Sri Lanka and Belarus intend to exchange business missions

BelTA: The Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Alexander Rogozhnik held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Shobini Gunasekera, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian diplomatic mission.
The parties discussed cooperation between the two countries in the political, trade, economic and humanitarian affairs, touched upon the development of a legal framework and cooperation within the framework of international organisations.
“The parties confirmed readiness to hold bilateral ministerial consultations and a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation this year. Alexander Rogozhnik and Shobini Gunasekera agreed that these events are of particular importance in the context of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Sri Lanka, which the countries will celebrate in November of this year.
In order to promote trade and economic agenda, the heads of the diplomatic missions of Belarus and Sri Lanka in Russia agreed to consider the possibility of exchanging business missions,” the press service said.
“While discussing cooperation on the humanitarian track, Shobini Gunasekera emphasised that there are several thousand students from Sri Lanka studying in Belarus and in this regard noted the high level of education in our country, which is known far beyond its borders,” the embassy added.

Sri Lanka, while on its path to becoming a regional hub, is focused on further strengthening and expanding the country’s existing trade ties with many foreign countries while also building new ties with more foreign countries. Sri Lankan authorities are engaged in a programme to create awareness and promote the growing business/investment opportunities in the country in many foreign countries. Sri Lanka’s strategic positioning in the Indian Ocean, the strong trade ties and the improving ease of doing business environment in the country have all added to the country’s ongoing economic expansion in-line with the target of becoming a hub in the South Asian region. All these developments have resulted in the expansion of Sri Lanka’s economic activities and in-turn opened up many business/investment opportunities. The interest shown by many foreign businesses/investors to explore the growing opportunities in Sri Lanka and the growth as well as profits recorded by local businesses and foreign businesses carrying out operations in the country are clear indications of the increasing business potential in Sri Lanka. Businesses/investors in Belarus as well as other foreign countries could therefore confidently explore the increasing business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.
