South Gujarat Chamber delegation explores investment opportunities in Sri Lanka

The Morning: A ten-member delegation from the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) is visiting Sri Lanka from 24-29 November, with the aim of strengthening economic and trade relations between the two nations.
Representing diverse sectors, the delegation will engage with key stakeholders in Colombo, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya during their visit.
The delegation is actively participating in “Voyage Sri Lanka,” a maritime-focused event organised by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB).
The event showcases trade and investment opportunities in the sector, emphasising Sri Lanka’s potential as a maritime hub.
In addition to collaborating with the EDB, the delegation will meet with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and prominent Sri Lankan chambers, such as the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Indo Lanka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ILCCI).
The SGCCI delegation also plans to hold discussions with leading corporate entities, including the Capital Maharaja Group, and other stakeholders to explore avenues for collaboration and investment.
A significant highlight of the visit is the promotion of Global Village 2025, an international exhibition set to be held in Surat, Gujarat, from 25-27 January, 2025. The event promises to provide a platform for connecting with global stakeholders and fostering collaboration in various sectors.

OSL take:
Sri Lanka and India enjoy strong bilateral and trade ties that have been further strengthened by an operational free trade agreement (FTA). The two countries enjoy strong ties in several key economic sectors like trade, investment and tourism, with a steady growth shown in all these sectors. Many Indian businesses operating in Sri Lanka have shown growth and profits through the years indicating the growth and business potential in Sri Lanka. With Sri Lanka working towards becoming a hub in the South Asian region supported by its geographical positioning in the Indian Ocean and strong trade ties with many other foreign countries, the ongoing economic expansion in Sri Lanka also serves to benefit India due to its increasing trade ties with Sri Lanka. Indian businesses/investors could therefore explore the many business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka. Foreign businesses could also look at setting up bases in Sri Lanka to engage with India and other countries in the region using the preferential treatment enjoyed by Sri Lanka with these countries.
