South Asian Travel Awards 2019 to be held in Sri Lanka this September

President of the South Asian Travel Awards 2019 (SATA) has reportedly said that the event will be hosted in Sri Lanka’s southern resort city of Galle this September.
The official has been quoted in the media as saying that Sri Lanka is a safe place to visit following the recovery from the Easter Sunday attacks in April.
“I was here on April 27, and remained for three weeks to see if we can still go on with the event. I would say that Sri Lanka is good to go,” SATA President Ismail Hameed has been quoted as saying.
“We decided that we wanted this year’s event happening in Sri Lanka after a couple of travels here.”
The 2019 edition of the awards will be different, Hameed has said, adding “It is not going to be a one-night event this time.”
“SATA 2019 will be a retreat with a countdown of events right up to the night of the Gala.”
According to reports, the awards ceremony for 2019, to be held at the Amari Galle hotel, has around 700 nominees after the inclusion of Bangladesh to the programme.
Other countries taking part include Sri Lanka, India, the Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan.

OSL take:

SATA 2019 is yet another large scale event that is to be held in Sri Lanka towards the latter part of the year. Several large scale conferences are to also be held in Sri Lanka in the next few months. This would be a confidence booster for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector that suffered a setback following the Easter Sunday attacks in April. However, the sector is has been on a revival path and has shown impressive growth in the aftermath of the attacks. The country’s tourism authorities have also taken many steps including a global promotional campaign and attractive packages as well as deals to foreign travelers to boost Sri Lanka’s tourism industry. Sri Lanka continues to maintain the top slot as the destination of the year in several key global travel publications. All this has added to the growing business potential of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector. Therefore, foreign businesses/investors could explore business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
