160 MW / 640 MWH Battery Energy Storage System from 10 MW / 40 MWH in 16 Locations on BOO Basis
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), under the Ministry of Energy, has published a tender inviting international investors to participate in the establishment of a 160 MW / 640 MWh Standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) network. Structured under a Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) model for a 15-year operational period, this national initiative is part of Sri Lanka’s commitment to energy security and renewable integration. Through this tender,CEB seeks qualified developers to design, finance, construct, and operate 16 individual BESS units, each with a capacity of 10 MW / 40MWh, strategically located across key regions in the country. The selected sites for grid connection, each limited to 33kV interconnection are,Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Polonnaruwa, Valachchenai, Ampara, Vavunathivu, Monaragala,Mahiyanganaya, Chunnakam, Beliatta, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Old Anuradhapura, Maho, and Panadura. Developers will benefit from a fixed monthly capacity charge in LKR for the full contract duration, with no indexation or currency fluctuation risk.
