Japanese delegation visits Sri Lanka to promote tourism

The Morning: A Japanese delegation comprising 11 members, under the coordination of Connaissance De Ceylan for tourism promotion visited the Presidential Secretariat on Saturday morning (14).

The primary objective of the delegation’s visit is to study and gain a deeper understanding of Sri Lankan people’s history, the introduction and development of Buddhism, traditional culture, Ayurveda, customary practices, food culture and key economic crops, the Presidential Media Division (PMD) said.

They also discussed possible initiatives to further develop the tourism industry between the two countries through such engagement and stated that they would share the knowledge and insights gained during the visit with the people of Japan. 

Discussions were also held on promoting Sri Lanka as a leading tourist destination in Japan and showcasing the country’s cultural heritage to the international community, focusing on locations such as Colombo, Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, Mahiyanganaya and Kandy, the PMD said. 

Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, along with several senior officials, also attended the occasion.

In addition to the Presidential Secretariat, the delegation also visited a number of notable locations including Sapugaskanda Purana Viharaya, Mihintale, Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, Dambana, Malwathu Maha Viharaya and Port City Colombo, the statement added.

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry continues to gather traction among foreign travelers with the country being identified as a must visit tourist destination with many tourism concepts that continue to attract many tourists. The increasing interest in Sri Lanka as a tourist destination and the support received by foreign travel publications and social media influencers indicate the growth and businesses potential in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry as well as related sectors. However, all these developments also indicate the expansion in business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and related sectors. The increasing demands of the growing number of foreign tourists and the need to further uplift as well as expanding the destinations and activities offered by the country to tourists have also added more opportunities to the existing ones. The expansion programmes launched by local businesses already engaged in the tourism sector and the increasing interest among international leisure and hospitality brands to enter Sri Lanka also indicate the increasing business potential in the industry. Foreign businesses/investors could therefore confidently explore the expanding business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and related sectors.
