Japanese delegation to explore investment priorities in Sri Lanka

Daily FT: A discussion has taken place recently at the Presidential Secretariat between the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and a delegation from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, along with representatives from Japanese trade, commerce and industry sectors.
This delegation from Japan has arrived in Sri Lanka to explore opportunities for increasing Japanese investment in the country.
The Japanese delegation, focusing on new investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, is scheduled to hold discussions with public and private sector companies in the upcoming days.

Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, Director for Southwest Asia, Trade Policy Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Toshiyuki Shimano, Deputy Director Hiromi Sumi, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Regional Representative for Southwest Asia Toyokazu Nagamune, along with representatives from Japanese trade, commerce and industry and officials from the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka also attended the meeting.

The expanding economic activities in Sri Lanka has opened many business/investment opportunities in key economic sectors in the country. With Sri Lanka poised to achieve regional hub status, the business/investment opportunities presented by the country would undoubtedly present many lucrative ventures. The increasing business confidence in Sri Lanka and the interest shown by many foreign businesses/investors to explore the expanding opportunities in the country are indicative of the country’s increasing business potential. It is in such a backdrop that a Japanese delegation has visited Sri Lanka to explore the business/investment opportunities in the country. Japan is also a key development partner of Sri Lanka enjoying strong bilateral ties. Sri Lanka’s strategic positioning in the Indian Ocean, the strong trade ties with many countries and the incentives on offer for foreign businesses/investors all serve to boost Sri Lanka as an emerging business destination in the South Asian region. The growth and profits recorded by many foreign businesses operating in Sri Lanka, including Japanese businesses serves as a further confidence booster. Japanese businesses/investors could therefore confidently explore the expanding business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka while also looking at doing business in the country by forming partnerships or joint ventures with local businesses.
