Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators to assist in rebuilding country’s tourism industry

The Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) has reportedly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently with the Sri Lanka Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) to assist in rebuilding the country’s tourism industry.
The signing of the MoU had taken place as SLAITO launched its ninth edition of ‘Sancharaka Udawa’ (a tourism exhibition) in Colombo last week.
The SLAITO-SLTPB MoU is expected to strengthen engagement and allow further development of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.
Speaking at the event Sri Lanka’s Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga had applauded the determination shown by the tourism industry.
“Our tourism industry is very resilient; we have faced similar situations in the past and come back even stronger, it will be no different this time too. The mid to long term effects are not as bad as we anticipated,” Amaratunga has said.
The Minister has also commended the intensive promotional approach undertaken by the industry by providing attractive packages to tourists.
“The Government has taken all necessary measures countrywide to provide security, especially to hotels and tourism sites,” the Minister has added.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s tourism authorities and stakeholders are engaged in various promotional campaigns to woo tourists to the country following the Easter Sunday attacks. So far tourist arrivals to the country have started to increase with foreign airlines also announcing the resumption of flights to Colombo. The government of Sri Lanka has meanwhile offered a relief package to the tourism sector resulting in stakeholders upgrading their existing facilities. All these are indicative of the quick recovery of the country’s tourism industry. Therefore, foreign businesses/investors could explore business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
