Canadian YouTubers in Sri Lanka to promote the island’s tourism sector overseas

Canadian YouTubers Luke Martin and Sabrina Davidson of Chopstick Travel are currently in Sri Lanka working with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) to promote the island’s tourism sector to overseas markets.
Chopstick Travel boasts of over 500,000 thousand globally diverse subscribers, over 92 million views on their channel and has worked with media giants such as Netflix, TripAdvisor as well as tourism boards around the world.
A news report on Daily FT states that their goal is simple, to document authentic local cuisine and promote culinary travel around the world for their audience.
“Food is the cultural connection between all walks of life and is the conduit in which Luke and Sabrina educate their audience about the cultures around the world,” the article states.
They highlight authentic cooking techniques and unique cuisines with great passion, which can be seen in the effort that they put into creating their content, the report further states.
Having filmed cuisine in over 20 different countries, they have finally arrived in Sri Lanka to document the wonderful food culture of Sri Lanka.
“We are already so impressed with Sri Lanka. Our goal is to help put this country back on track to becoming a top travel destination. The people of this country deserve it and we strive to share Sri Lanka with the world. We’re very grateful to the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau for inviting us here,” Luke has been quoted as saying shortly after arriving in Sri Lanka.
Starting their Sri Lankan culinary journey from Colombo, the pair has already covered a wide range of cuisine in a short span of time, from bustling markets to local street foods to fine dining.
“Colombo has something for everyone. From the street food to the leading specialty restaurants in Colombo, you will always be satisfied,” Sabrina has been quoted as saying.

OSL take:

Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has shown an impressive growth despite suffering a setback following the Easter Sunday attacks in April. Tourism authorities in the country have initiated a global promotional campaign while also presenting many attractive packages and deals for the foreign travellers. Sri Lanka continues to maintain the top slot as the destination of the year in several key global travel publications. All this has resulted in the increase in tourist arrivals to the country as well as investments to Sri Lanka’s tourism sector. Therefore foreign businesses/investors could explore business/investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
